Some Guy's mostly Super Mario World related stuff!
If you want to try out some of the SMW levels I've created, the links are below. Just patch the IPS file to a clean SMW ROM and you should be good to go! If there are any questions, PM me.
SMW hack I've been working on (v0.23):
bin.smwcentral.net/u/12382/SMWSRA023.rar
I'll also leave the v0.22 link here for now, in case anyone wants it for whatever reason:
bin.smwcentral.net/28530/SMWSRA022.ips
SMW hack with the 27 addmusic songs:
bin.smwcentral.net/28531/SMWaddmusic.ips
Also, just in case anyone is looking for the 27 addmusic songs so they can put them in a SMW hack for themselves, I'll put a download link here:
bin.smwcentral.net/28532/27addmusicsongs.rar
I've also made a Super Mario Bros. hack, so if anyone wants to try it, here's the link:
bin.smwcentral.net/36372/SMB1SRA.ips
Make sure to patch this to a clean Super Mario Bros. (NES) ROM, and not Super Mario World!
A link to an experimental forum site (from Zeldara109):
s11.zetaboards.com/generic/
In this forum, you can find virtualboy2558's daily questions, view some Touhou high scores, rant about stupid things UA-cam's doing, and talk about some other random stuff.
Also, want the previous UA-cam home page back? Well, there is another solution (for now). Go over to that experimental forum link above, and go to "General" - "General Discussion" - "UA-cam Features and Bugs", and go to the bottom of page 2 of "UA-cam Features and Bugs", where you'll see GlitchMr has posted a helpful piece of coding, which does work (for now). I really hope those guys in charge of UA-cam don't nerf this trick too...
UPDATE (Jan. 11, 2011): Well, GlitchMr's trick doesn't work anymore. Dang it, UA-cam! Hey, GlitchMr, got any new tricks?
Link to a UA-cam help forum where you can conplain about the new UA-cam layouts and/or sign petitions:
www.google.com/support/forum/p/youtube/thread?tid=529209ce92ffb2bd&hl=en
UPDATE: That thread has been locked to new replies, but there's a link at the top of the page to another thread with a similar discussion (which is also locked, but there's another link to a still open discussion at the top of that page).
Go to these links to vote on whether you want the "old" UA-cam or the "new" UA-cam: (The bottom link is more recent and pertains to the channel design specifically.)

I'm kinda surprised I didn't try playing this level a couple years ago, but better late than never, I guess. So, this level is pleasant, and quite easy, even if you don't turn on any of the ! switches.

100% Orange Juice - Online Match [473] Barrier Break
Переглядів 4314 днів тому
This private match took place on August 10th, and in this match, I take on MARKVD100's "Barrier Break" challenge, which involves "racing" on his custom field, Beacon Tunnel. This map has a lot of straight paths with pretty much no variety in the junctions that the players can make choices at, as they lead to the same panel types in the same order. Mark had picked Charity and Battlefield for the...

So, I eventually started recording on my own to get it later, and while I thought I had it down pat, for s...

In the comments of the video I uploaded yesterday, WindowsXP_YT asked if there were any levels in SMW that could be completed without pressing A, B, X, or Y. I decided to give this a bit of thought, and after quickly looking over all of SMW's levels, I believe there are only two normal exits that can be done this way, and both require entering with Yoshi. So, here they are. One is super duper e...

I feel like the orange dirt might be a little too much
I keep thinking the red ground is going to hurt you, like in that one EVW level.
Difficulty Judge: Hard 5* 1:02 Yep, I noticed that. 4:00 WHAT? I never seen THAT happen before. 6:10 How in the heck? 6:46 Pff. 7:18 Sadly, there's no moon in this level. 7:36 ... 8:45 How silly.
(4:00) Yeah, I'm not sure what caused the flames to not spawn at all there.
1:07 -- It sounds closer to the Super Mario Galaxy 2 slide theme for me. BTW, I 100%-ed that game on August 9 (the final star took me over 120 tries!). 1:25 -- Or rather, "shell we?" :P 3:27 -- One case where intuition doesn't follow game logic. 3:38 -- Baldi: "Now it's time for everybody's favorite subject, math!" 8:22 -- That background music already gives me nostalgia.
I feel like not making the turn blocks RGB was a missed opportunity. Possibly the same with the coins.
1:14 Well, hello there, Chuck Helmet Hill! 1:39 Giant pipes! 1:55 Huh, why 1 extra frame I wonder. 2:32 Wha-? 3:47 ... 4:07 So, this means 500 SMW Seconds is 5.683 real minutes. 4:52 Gosh dang. I wish I have reflexes like that.
(1:55) It was apparently meant to be 40 frames, but a mistake caused it to really be 41 frames. Quoting nathanisbored's comment on raocow's "And Another Thing - 6" video: "the conversion factor is 41/60, or 68.3% of a normal second. In the code the “second delay” is set to 40, but the check for it waits until it’s past 0, so it’s technically 41 frames. If it were 40, then 100 time units would be 66.6 seconds, but instead it’s closer to 68 seconds" (4:07) Hmm... I get 5.694 real minutes when I do out the math.

Charging Chucks are fun for auto levels Thank you for playing!
1:12 More music with outdated English titles! This one is called "Danger Abounds on the Journey" in the Switch remake. 1:24 Someone should make an actual custom sprite out of a Charlie bursting from the wall. 2:56 Maybe it's meant to be a subtle "you're doing it wrong" indicator? 3:11 Wait, I just now noticed the glitched frame on that Charlie's shovel!
(1:12) Ah. Yeah, I just went with the SNES version's name that I already knew, and how it's shown on SMW Central. (1:24) Heh, that would be pretty great. (3:11) Pfft... I saw it too, but forgot to comment on it.
That's a very...odd decision.
(1:30) - Without collecting the Board Bowser’s Sub star, it’s possible to perform a side backwards-long-jump on the stairs or near the slope under a ceiling (low-ceiling backwards-long-jump), though it is *REALLY* hard to do without any tool-assistance. (2:29) - What if you ground-pound the bully while he is behind Hanyuu? (2:49) - Other than a lava boost shortcut, an upwarp that skips the pole found by TASers is *REALLY, REALLY* hard to do, and it requires some tool-assistance. (7:13) - The shark further up is Sushi if you looked at the Nintendo 64 game files. (8:45) - Heeft Pannen niet al eens opgemerkt dat er twee vergelijkbare sterrennamen zijn? (10:03) - MAAAAANTAAAAA RAAAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!
(1:30) Yeah, I'm not gonna try super tricky stuff like that here. (2:29) The Bully will be shoved in the direction I'm facing, but it can also cause my character to be moved forward, which could be dangerous if I'm at the edge of the ledge, facing the lava. Not something I'd want to risk trying with only 2 HP left. (2:49) Yeah, I know of that too, but no need for me to attempt that here. (7:13) Right. I just simply used its generic animal term here. (8:45) Waarschijnlijk.
So glad to see you uploading this amazing and cute SM64 Rom Hack Super Hanyuu again. 😄😄😀😀
0:38, 8:34, 10:50 "Why do I have to swim through this channel(?) in Dire Dire Docks to get over half the stars?" - ExoParadgimGamer 2017 0:49 1 frame different camera angle. 1:20 I think I remember it was mentioned how laggy this submarine is on the N64. 4:02 Wait, I KNOW what you're going to do. "One way is to boil the Bob-omb" 5:09 The Bowser tail body hitbox thing, yeah. 8:51 (Is this the first time I'm seeing this effect?) 11:58 Bro. It was that simple too. 13:37 Snowman's Land.
(0:49) Weird side-effect of the loading zone in this part, I think. Maybe I'll check to see if it's still like that on v1.0 later. (1:20) Yeah, this port did a nice job of removing the lag here. (4:02) Make sure the lava is preheated to 375° first. :P (5:09) I don't think I showed the best example of it here, but I can try to show it much better during the Bowser in the Sky battle in the future. (8:51) You mean how I manually moved the camera? Or, just the general graphics from the bubbles and such here?
@@SomeGuy712x 8:51 The five rings and the sound effect counting.
@@markvd1008 Ah. I'm pretty sure those are normal.
Do you want to know what happen in Vs. Super mario bros. if you do that. I played it on Nintendo switch /watch?v=oWauMBHhAow
I already know, even without looking at that video. You'll get one 1-up during the combo, then all stomps after that in the combo are worth 8000 points. But, when you eventually land, you can jump again to try and create a new combo for another 1-up followed by a bunch of 8000s. So, it's still good for life-farming, albeit much slower, and it's also much better for score-farming. Of course, Nintendo caught onto this trick when they made Vs. SMB, so they removed most instances of Koopas and Buzzy Beetles on stairs to try to put a stop to it. But, there's still a Parakoopa at the end of world 5-2 that I can make work for this in that arcade version. ...Ah, and then upon looking at your video, you did indeed do the trick in 5-2. Nice.
0:06 You wouldn't be able to complete the game coinless AND glitchless otherwise! 0:59 Oh wow, this port fixes the lag with Bowser's sub! 2:42 Has pannenkoek ever mentioned/analyzed that in a video? 11:53 Have any of those hacks kept the vanilla game's unused "metal wing" texture intact? 13:26 Isn't the surface of the mirror supposed to be more visible, or am I misremembering?
(2:42) I'm not sure. It's just something I've noticed from my own experience. (11:53) I don't remember, but I can try to check next time I see the chance to mix Wing with Metal in a hack. (13:26) I thought it was supposed to be transparent like this. Next time I play the actual vanilla game, maybe I can check.
13:07 "this Toad is coded to not appear if you less than 25 stars". It looks that you accidentally a word there. I had totally forgotten about this challenge! Happy to see it continue.
(13:07) Maybe something like, "have"?
D'oh! Yep, I omitted "have" there. I think I made that mistake while trying to get all of the text in that annotation to fit within 2 lines. I'm sure I could find a way to squeeze "have" in there or reword it properly some other way with it still fitting in 2 lines.
12:23 this _is_ a castle, but, it's not Roy's one. I don't see any reason to not use the newer version. That underwater loading zone is weird. The level is too big to fit in the bounds of what the original encoding scheme supports. So the two sections actually overlap, and the tunnel toggles which one "exists" and warps you back to make it seem like they're separate places. (In other words, they're like parallel universes... :p)
2:08 YI3 looks so weird with no spaces, heh. Thought you made a B. Well, that's why we have kerning.
(0:17) Once again, Some Guy showing off his glitch skills... (0:37) I was half expecting a pit or wall just off screen. (1:01) Chuck count: 2. (1:05) Chuck count: 4. (1:13) Chuck count: 6. (1:28) Chuck count: 7. (1:31) Well that was unexpectedly abrupt. Chuck count: 12. (1:38) Chuck count: 14. (1:49) Chuck count: 15. (1:53) Chuck count: 19. (1:56) This level is ...neat, but missing a bit. Also a bit sad that the auto level doesn't arrange it to give stars. (2:26) Great job. (3:08) Darn it, collision...
1:04 Hey, an auto level that doesn't have ice physics!
1:09 Nice timing with the platform when the @17 hits. 1:22 Well then, he's running in place like a treadmill. 1:28 I see those gray lines at the bottom. 3:07 Oof.
(1:28) Yeah, those are the teleport tiles.
I still do the stairs trick on the sega genesis version 😊
Your editing is great, loved the sped-up scene and the commentary. You should have way more views for sure. This hack looks like a lot of fun.
0:03 Oooph, oooph, I can hear the ZSNES handling the decay ADSR of the @4 in that cave map theme! 0:28 I guess for unnecessary convenience. 1:39 What the? 2:09 Good one. 3:04 Nice ledge grip there. 4:14 Ditto. 5:12 Wow. 5:54 And before you die... 8:13 And you somehow missed the Start Select. 9:54 Referencing how patcr said it? 10:58 ...The Spiny Egg abomination? 11:12 Yep, something like that. 12:14 Well then! 12:35 Yep. 15:31 Maybe that rocky cement doesn't have that kind of slope? 15:53 I guess. Interesting that you found the note about the history of the gems in Episode *11* . I vote for ZMZ to be updated which makes the movie feature work.
(9:54) LOL, yeah. (10:58, 11:12) Close enough. :P (15:31) Except it does, like at about 15:49. Oh, that's fitting, finding that in episode 11 alright. I second that vote.
0:15 What *is* surprising about this is that you apparently aren't explicitly getting claimed by Square-Enix themselves, which I thought was likely given how they seem to be even more butthurt about their music being on UA-cam than even Nintendo. 4:26 Looks like this level uses the wrong palette header settings for the Buzzy Beetle colors... OR it could just be a reference to how the original Buzzy Beetle palette was a lot like the underground terrain palette, or even their usual palette in All-Stars! 5:57 It's in Vampire Survivors now. (Okay, it's still in SMBC if you run it through something like Flashpoint, but Vampire Survivors having Contra crossover DLC is also cool.) 10:58 A group of four X-boxes? 11:09 WOOHOO! 18:24 I still wish I knew what causes that double-ding glitch I've heard in a lot of custom Lemmy fights.
(0:15) Yeah, if the copyright claimers' names made sense, then I would've mentioned that in the description. And, if there was actually a major problem with the song that would've affected the video's ability to be viewed, then what I would probably do is go into Lunar Magic and change each instance of the song to something else, like the vanilla cave music. (4:26) Yeah, maybe. I think there's nothing really wrong with their color palette here, though. As long as it doesn't look like a glitchy mess, such as a group of four X-boxes. :P (5:57) Oh, that's neat. (10:58, 11:09) Heh, nice. (18:24) That can actually happen in the vanilla game too, and I don't know what causes it either.
Thankfully, this archipelago doesn't have traps everywhere.
Revamping the "lotto" is easy - just make everything taller. I'd say go tall enough that you can't fly back up.
0:22 Really? 1:06 Sound effects changed through AddMusicK probably. 1:40 In combination with the wrapping pea spring. 2:36 Aligning with the kiss. :P 3:01 Yoshi's head got changed to animations for Midway Point. 3:06 And then an On/Off Switch. 4:56 Would it be enough to avoid some by manually scrolling the camera left?
(0:22) Yeah, I actually did that on purpose when I saw it was possible as I first started out. (I backed up with a rewind to do that. :P) (3:01, 3:06) Yep, Yoshi's head be glitchin'. (4:56) Oh, I didn't think of that for some reason. It might be possible. However, the first 4 coins forced upon me at the very start of the level appear to be totally unavoidable.
(0:24) Whoops. (0:30) Welp, next video. (0:36) Chuck got stage fright. (0:49) Ah, typos... (1:20) Aw, the effects are broken... (1:26) Hrm... (1:49) I see something I need to look up in the future... (2:30) Hi, "you're winner"! (3:14) Oops. (3:45) Aw, the bonus room doesn't work... (4:01) Our Yoshi! NO! (4:59) Defeated by the power of "nom". So out of curiosity, what are the judging standards for the ALDC?
Details for the contest are here: www.smwcentral.net/?p=viewthread&t=127304 I guess I should add this to the video description too.
0:58 Good on you for remembering the space in Dream Land! 1:14 So did the creator just replace all instances of the "boing" sound with "bawow"? 1:21 And all instances of Yoshi's "detteiu" as well? 1:49 Hey there, green Mario! (Both in the background and who you're "playing" as.) 3:00 How is Yoshi's head glitching out that badly?! I know that Yoshi's graphics and those other glitched tiles his head becomes are both part of the original games' animated GFX file, but still... 3:14 Maybe that's just where a berry used to be? 5:21 And there were no actual coins anywhere in this level, right?
(0:58) That issue mainly comes up with Kirby's Return to Dream Land, as I usually don't make that mistake with the first three game titles for some reason. (1:14, 1:21) Yep, sounds like it. (1:49) Yeah, who knows why Boosius decided to make Mario green here. (3:00) I think the presence of a baby Yoshi screwed with his head tiles. (3:14) Oh, that may indeed be the case. (5:21) No loose coins, I don't think. It's just the automatic noms from a couple of baby Yoshis that put 8 coins into my pocket.
@@SomeGuy712x 3:00 Yeah, but why did his head become the raw animated tiles this time, instead of just a Baby Yoshi or a regular Yoshi's torso?
@@TheGoomba98 I have no idea. Maybe because baby Yoshi was no longer on-screen, and the game wanted to put something arbitrary there?
Finally, a SomeGuy712x reaction video. (by the loosest possible definition) Also Piranha Chucks should be an actual Mario enemy in the next 2D title, especially if there would also be a fire variation of them.
bawow
Heh, clicking "Translate to English" changes "bawow" to "boy".
Difficulty Judge will be mentioned in my video of the level. 0:05 Is there an actual official title for this type of song? 1:03 Really? :P 1:17 I don't think I have that place in my area. 2:01 There's not like a circle pizza cutter though. 3:10, 3:35 (Ah, that's what it was for...) 5:20 Not for everyone I suppose. 5:29 Probably. 6:13 This part can screw up the alignment here. 7:35 Didn't make use of the default merged tiles I think...
(0:05) There probably is, but I forget the name. (1:03) Heh, yeah. I thought of that pledge on the spot there. :P (3:10, 3:35) Yep. That might be the only change Blizzard Buffalo made to this level after I made this video.
@@SomeGuy712x 0:05 I later found out it's named "Funiculì, Funiculà".
@@markvd1008 Ah, nice. I'll try to remember that if this song ever comes up again.
2:37 Technically, you could just hold X/Y for the entire game and win with only 1 X/Y (although this loophole can be somewhat avoided by requiring X/Y to be released before the start of each level)
Yeah, I'm not doing a "half-button" press thing for this.
I'm sorry to say this, but I absolutely didn't like the level. It was so frustrating, I can't use any appropriate words here. Plus, I had to use this video to figure out the last puzzle. I don't recommend this to anyone. I almost had a breakdown and I broke my plate due to this level. Fortunately, the PC is fine and I didn't have to send it to a repair point.
Today's teeny typo: At 2:30: "adjucent". Also, is it just me, or is this sentence at 0:30: "At least didn't screw up my savestate, fortunately." missing a word?
(0:30) D'oh! (2:30) D'OHHH!!! How the pudding did I misspell that word in that way? I swear, some unknown force in the universe is sticking typos into my annotations after the fact somehow. I'm always aghast at how I manage to make so many of the errors that I do. And, I bet if VideoPad had even a basic spell checker included, that would catch a lot of these typos for me.
1:25 It might be a proper path from event now. 2:20 It was probably a few frames away from the rotating state to be finished. 3:15 Bah? 3:31 Welp. 4:27 Yeah, that would require changing one of the oranges near the Koopa color pattern things. 4:59 Well then! 5:18 Laser pistol shape. 5:40 What the heck just happened? It took me a couple seconds to process that. 5:49 Really, the wall jump grip got you there. 8:50 And I suppose the Chuck can't assist you by jumping over the death juice. 9:15 (Rachael Lillis, you will be missed. You did energetic and heartfelt vocal performances as Misty.) 11:24 Heh! 12:13 Gosh dang, the sustained note is not like in the original and it bothers me. 13:39 Bro.
(1:25) Yeah, and looking at the map in Lunar Magic, it does look like a proper entrance now. (9:15) Definitely. (13:39) Sis. :P
5:10 Is that a tiny row of cutoff I see at the top? 6:52 Isn't the coin block once again unnecessary due to the wall jump? 12:27 Have you ever seen a patch that fixes that? I vote for fate to have a sense of humor and give you a cape in the first level of the next video.
(5:10) Yeah, I see that with the bonus game room sometimes, when the camera is like a pixel or two higher than normal for some reason. (6:52) Yep, and because you can just do a running jump from the ground below, or use the vine to the left. (12:27) I want to say I have, but I can't remember which hack(s) I've seen that in.
Thanks for reminding me that Pokémon Puzzle League exists. I'll have to play that again sometime. (Sure I could play Panel de Pon Attack, but it doesn't have the 3D mode and the Pokémon music.)
The GameCube Panel de Pon (from Nintendo Puzzle Collection) does have the 3D mode, actually! In fact, it even started as an N64 PdP game (and its N64 incarnation was retooled as Pokémon Puzzle League).
It's quite ironic to look back at this and that there's an official field called "The Void" now but with a different design around almost 7 years later. A new name for this would probably be "Dark Matter" now.
Ah, yes. Same with a custom map called Vortex that I think we played long ago before the official Vortex was made. (And, as I recall, the custom Vortex wasn't really very good, with it having zero junctions for players to choose where to go, whilst the official Vortex is one of my favorite maps.)
Yeah, it's interesting how esoteric some of these checkpoint 1-ups are, just like in Super Mario 64. It also reminds me of when I went for every blue coin in Super Mario Sunshine to 100% the game. Some coins were too obscure to find on my own, so I used a guide from IGN to help me out. It took two months to find them all, but I did it!
I needed a guide for a few blue coins in Sunshine too.
@@SomeGuy712x Yep, and the reward for getting all the Shine Sprites may or may not be worth it.
1:34 -- This isn't Yellow Donkey Escort, so Chuck did us a favor. 3:43 -- Possibly, because it bothers me, too. 5:04 -- Task failed successfully. 5:49 -- Aha! There's the problem. 6:14 -- Collateral damage! 💪 7:46 -- Yes! Freaking yes! 7:57 -- Time to go lunatic. 9:03 -- Come with me, my trusty steed! 11:08 -- Yeah, epic fail. 12:57 -- We'll have to wait and see.
(3:43) Yeah, adjusting everything's Y position affected the bounce height behavior of every bouncing Parakoopa in that room, which I didn't realize while I was fixing the pipe exits.
@@SomeGuy712x I had no idea that was even a thing until I read TheGoomba98's comment. There's much more to learn about SMW than I thought!
1:19 Another music looping error! Also, what does the VC in the title stand for?
(1:19) I wonder if that's yet another mistake exclusive to SM64 Co-op DX, and that it loops just fine in the original hack? VC = Vanish Cap.
I guess the first one is supposed to be timed for running in while the cheese sinks?
But, running in too quickly might cause you to overshoot checkpoint #3.
I wonder who recorded Connie's voicelines
I have no idea.
Those are actually just the same as Toad's standard voicelines in SM64 Co-op DX, most of which seem to be derived from the international versions of Mario Kart 64 (where he's voiced by Isaac Marshall).
@@TheGoomba98 Ah, okay. I thought they sounded a bit like Toad.
Maybe they realized the first 1-up had trouble collecting it, so they put the second one, and forgot to remove the other.
5:30 -- Whoops! The word "enter" is repeated. 8:51 -- Or drinks, as juice can't be eaten. 10:43 -- LOL, that's like dismounting Yoshi above a message block! 13:53 -- Mwahahahahaha, triple 6 time!
(5:30) Really now... And no one noticed this before? Uggghhh...
@@SomeGuy712x Yeah, farfignewton. 🙃
